Why I am committed to a young universe/Earth

In a nutshell, my journey from Old to Young Creationism really was shaped by the realization that my first loyalty in terms of epistemology (how I know what I know) was to the Scriptures and that I was bringing the scientific consensus, which is dominated by material naturalism, to my understanding of orig ins and the observable universe. I went through many twists and turns to reconcile the Bible to the consensus before I realized that material naturalism has no way to account for a supra-natural, immaterial God acting on His Creation and that it is not His requirement to fit everything we observe into a tidy naturalistic framework. His normative will is that the universe act within the laws He has established, but He is in no way bound to act within them, according to His good pleasure.  That made me more and more begin to question my presuppositions and areas that I was capitulating. It was through this self-discovery and criticism that I began to "take every thought ca...

Why you should be skeptical of extraterrestrial life claims as a Biblical Christian

I have no issue with scientific discovery of the universe, inasmuch as it falls within our duty to understand the works of God in Creation. That being said, I think that the heavens declare the glory of God and that Earth and the life that inhabits it is a unique and miraculous one-time occurrence created through and for the work of Christ as Savior and Judge. This video is a good watch to get an idea of things that shape my thinking, scientifically (and just to clarify - this is substantiation for my theology, whereas Scripture is the foundation). Here is another great article that frames a good approach to understanding and skepticism of "scientific" claims around extraterrestrial life. Here is another one from 2007 when yet another planet was announced.

Why I am an oddXian...

A real Christian is an odd number, anyway. He feels supreme love for One whom he has never seen; talks familiarly everyday to someone he cannot see; expects to go to heaven on the virtue of another; empties himself in order to be full; admits he is wrong so he can be declared right; goes down in order to get up; is strongest when he is weakest; richest when he is poorest; happiest when he feels the worst. He dies so he can live; forsakes in order to have; gives away so he can keep; sees the invisible; hears the inaudible; and knows that which passeth knowle dge. —A. W. Tozer,  The Root of the Righteous  (Harrisburg, PA: Christian Publications, 1955), 156. borrowed from here

re-meme: Concerning judging

The answer to those challenging absolute certainty about the God of Christianity

No one has an excuse not to be absolutely certain about the God of Christianity: For his invisible attributes, namely, his eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly perceived, ever since the creation of the world, in the things that have been made. So they are without excuse. For although they knew God, they did not honor him as God or give thanks to him, but they became futile in their thinking, and their foolish hearts were darkened. Claiming to be wise, they became fools... (Romans 1:20-22 ESV)

Devotions for the religion of Scientism

Found here From Wikipedia: Scientism  is belief in the universal applicability of the scientific method and approach, and the view that empirical science constitutes the most authoritative worldview or most valuable part of human learning to the exclusion of other viewpoints. Scientism is really the elevation of humanistic material naturalism to the level of religious devotion and promotes science - which speaks only to material and natural conditions - as a valid and trustworthy method for contextualizing reality. Romans 1:25 (ESV) 25  because they exchanged the truth about God for  a lie and worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator,  who is blessed forever! Amen.

For those professing Christians that call good what God calls evil - let me help set your expectations

If you fall into this camp you can expect 1 of 3 things: 1. You are not one of His people and will be allowed to continue to condemn yourself according to your works, even as you profess Christ. Matthew 7:21-23 (ESV) “Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. On that day many will say to me, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and cast out demons in your name, and do many mighty works in your name?’ And then will I declare to them, ‘I never knew you;depart from me, you workers of lawlessness.’ 2. You are one of His people and He will discipline you to bring you back into alignment. Revelation 3:19 (ESV) - Those whom I love, I reprove and discipline, so be zealous and repent. 3. You are one of His people and He will remove you. 1 John 5:16 (ESV) - If anyone sees his brother committing a sin not leading to death, he shall ask, and God will give him life—to those who co...

When your skeptical friends (or otherwise) ask you about a talking snake, donkey or other miraculous events in Scripture

It is crucial not to capitulate the fact that God is supra-natural and is not bound to the laws of nature, since He is the author of those laws and is ruler over them. He has the right to subject them to His will for His purposes.

Repost: Can Quantum Mechanics Produce a Universe from Nothing?

" The fact is, the idea that such an event could happen is pure speculation and conjecture. No such phenomenon—the conversion from energy to matter of an entire Universe—has ever been remotely observed. It is a desperate attempt to hold to naturalistic presuppositions, in spite of the evidence, when a supernatural option that is in keeping with the evidence is staring us in the face." remainder of illuminating article here

on judging others

This meme is more about judging the ultimate disposition of others, but I think it also speaks to the measure that we *can* use to judge other's actions as well as warning in terms of the focus of ultimate judgement. When Christ is in the center of our eye, His righteousness removes the "plank" and allows us to see and judge rightly.

Why X in oddXian?

The idea of X as an abbreviation for the name of Christ came into use in our culture with no intent to show any disrespect for Jesus. The church has used the symbol of the fish historically because it is an acronym.  Fish in Greek (ichthus) involved the use of the first letters for the Greek phrase “Jesus Christ, Son of God, Savior.” So the early Christians would take the first letter of those words and put those letters together to spell the Greek word for fish.  That’s how the symbol of the fish became the universal symbol of Christendom. There’s a long and sacred history of the use of X to symbolize the name of Christ, and from its origin, it has meant no disrespect.  - RC Sproul
