Why Biblical Creationism is not "god-of-the-gaps" and Evolutionary Theory is

"Ironically, it is evolutionists, not creationists, who are guilty of ignoring scientific evidence.3 Over the last 70 years there have been many thousands of experiments with sophisticated equipment trying to create life in the laboratory from dead matter and energy.4 However, all of these experiments have clearly demonstrated that life cannot come about by chance. Evolutionists have a choice. Either they accept the laboratory experiments or ignore them and put faith in the god of evolution. They have chosen to ignore the evidence and exercise blind faith in chance."

Dr James White on logical circularity and presuppositionalism

Alpha and Omega website.

Does the Bible teach an Old Universe?

I believe Old Earth Creationists erroneously adopt a material naturalistic framework to address the age of Creation when they should submit their minds to the interpretation most closely aligned to Scripture.
That is, the view that we have a normatively material and natural young Creation actively superintended by an immaterial and supernatural Creator is the most consistently Biblical. In fact, if you believe in the propositions of an old universe and an old earth, one might say you are much more of a Deist than a Theist.
My argument is that we should start with Scripture and end with Scripture and contextualize the interpretation of natural revelation within the framework that most closely aligns to how God has revealed Himself. The church started with an YEC framework based on Scripture, we should be highly skeptical of anything that breaks that view.
