Americans Losing Faith

Many unbelievers will probably think recent polls suggesting More Americans Say They Have No Religion will be taken as bad news by Christians. Quite the opposite though, for no true believer will lose their faith. The current trends fueled by post modern philosophies and an environment in which it's deemed more acceptable for people to express their own (true) beliefs only provides:

1. a more honest situation in which the identity, unbelief, and faulty foundations of unbelievers will be more exposed and hence more open to evangelism and correction
2. a greater distinction in which the value and distinctions of the Christian faith can be greater appreciated
3. a greater purity to the visible church as false professors separate themselves from the church.

    "Correction?" Really?

That part aside, I think you're probably right that most of those who've moved over to "non-religious" are people who were Christians because that's the prevailing culture. There are also many people who are only believers because they're afraid not to be.

The most honest situation would be for people to be unafraid *not* to believe. I think it's better for people to be able to examine evidence without fear of hell and without fear of being non-religious.

Unfortunately, what may happen instead is that people may just replace Christianity with another religion. It's deeply troubling if Scientology and Santeria are now showing up in statistics.

Response: The gospel is what it is. Obviously, there's not much fear in your case, but that doesn't mean it won't become a reality.

Don't you realize that when you pass judgment on others and yet do the same things yourself, you condemn yourself and prove God's judgment against those who do these things is based on truth. Do you really think you will escape God's judgment? Or do you show contempt for the riches of his kindness, tolerance and patience, not realizing that God's kindness leads you toward repentance?

  3. Sword,
This is very good insight. It is almost impossible to evangelize those who profess but do not possess saving faith!

    skeptimal,
Although you think you understand Christianity, you do not. Sword and others will lead you to the truth if you will sincerely ask God in prayer to open your eyes to the gospel as you are blind to it now....
