Eckhart Tolle versus Scripture / Christianity / Church on Jesus Christ (Your Response)

Biggest Question Eckhart Tolle Inquirers and Followers need to answer...

Jesus Christ once asked the question: Who do you say that I am?

Eckhart Tolle (Inquirers/Followers), Who do YOU say that Jesus is?

Is Jesus simply a "way-shower" or is he the one and only Savior (i.e. substitutionary sacrifice)?
Is Jesus simply a "revealer" or is he a Redeemer?
Is Jesus simply an "enlightened master"(teacher) or is he the Son of God?

As you consider your answer, give thought to the following...

Jesus was not a mere enlightened Master. The New Agers' rendition of Jesus as an "enlightened Master" in a class with Buddha, Zoroaster, and others is a radical distortion of the Jesus found in Scripture (which is to say, the Jesus of historical record rather than the Jesus of the mystical Akashic Records). The Jesus found in Scripture clearly believed and taught that He alone among men is God (John 8:58; 10:30; 14:9-10). Douglas Groothuis comments: "If Jesus thought he was uniquely God incarnate but he wasn't, he was far less than 'an enlightened master' -- he didn't even know who he was! If he knew he was not uniquely God incarnate, but said he was, he was a flaming fraud, and in no sense was he an 'enlightened master.' Worse yet, he would have been a deceiver, leading a multitude astray."

  1. People just don't understand that this is the same trick - new tactic - that Satan used in the Garden of Eden. He promised Eve enlightenment. "You will be as gods," he said in Genesis 3:5, and what happened? Adam and Eve were kicked out of the garden and cursed with death. See my comments at http://messianicteacher.blogspot.com/.

  2. 1) Way-shower. God showing humanity the way.
    2) Revealer. The redemptive/substitutionary atonement angle was probably grafted onto the life of Jesus long after his death by followers who couldn't quite get away from the temple's atonement system. After all, which is easier? Living a decent life and caring for people? Or transfering all of your shortcomings to a pigeon, goat, person, or some other "sacrifice"?
    3) Enlightened Rabbi and Son of God. Just like you're a Son (or daughter) of God.

Isaiah - 700 B.C. "Yet it was the will of the LORD to crush him; he has put him to grief; when his soul makes an offering for sin, he shall see his offspring; he shall prolong his days; the will of the LORD shall prosper in his hand. Out of the anguish of his soul he shall see and be satisfied; by his knowledge shall the righteous one, my servant, make many to be accounted righteous, and he shall bear their iniquities." (Isaiah 53:10-11)

  4. I believe that Jesus is:

-both a "way-shower" and the 1 and only Saviour... for Jesus says "I am the way the truth and the life, for no one comes to the Father but through me."

-both a revealer and a Redeemer

-both a teacher (he is called teacher/master throughout the new testament) and the Son of God (also called throughout the new testament)

Eckhart Tolle - Christian Response

Unbelievable! ...The extent man not founded upon Christ will go and follow in their quest and pursuit of self and attempts to explain away reality and sin. Here's Oprah's spiritual sage... Response: 1. He resurrects errors of the past which deny reality by seeking to replace it with forms. 2. By reducing the past to forms (or photo albums) he not only denies the reality of the past but the extent of it's connectedness and relationship to the present. This error he also translates in regard to the future. 3. He establishes a false premise that one can separate the reality of the present ("now") from reality itself, which he vests in onesself (though he inconsistently goes on to suggest that life is found in abandoning oneself) 4. He has no grounds or basis for assuming reality is found in self (and apart from everything else, or only what one want's to allow) 5. By denying the truth of God, he falsely asserts that the future is no longer problematic...

Eckhart Tolle Christianity (Understanding Eckhart Tolle - Comparison / Difference with Christianity)

I believe it important that both believers and unbelievers understand the difference between the teaching of Eckhart Tolle and Christianity. Here's a brief post to introduce you to a few of the significant differences. (Note, I've just been exposed to Tolle, but it doesn't seem to take long to discern the differences) Context (the problem)Taken from here .: Despite Oprah and Eckhart's reduction of Christianity to but one "way" amongst many other equally legitimate ways to God, and their calling Christ a "revolutionary" who has been misunderstood by the Church, and who simply came to manifest "Christ-consciousness", a quick search through the internet reveals that many Christians are following Oprah in attempting to fuse together the teachings of Eckhart, and the doctrines of the historical Christian church. Blasphemy Against the Holy Spirit: Understanding Scripture's Most Serious Sin

When Jesus spoke about blasphemy against the Holy Spirit being the unforgivable sin (Mark 3:28-29), He revealed one of Scripture's most profound truths. This declaration demands our careful attention and complete understanding. The Context of Christ's Warning The context of Jesus's statement about blasphemy against the Holy Spirit reveals its true nature. In Mark 3, the religious leaders attributed Jesus's miraculous works to demonic powers rather than recognizing them as the Holy Spirit's testimony to Christ's identity. This wasn't a casual mistake—it was a deliberate rejection of divine testimony. The Holy Spirit's Mission Jesus declared the Spirit's core mission: "When the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all truth... He will glorify me" (John 16:13-14). The Spirit's fundamental role is to testify to Christ and reveal divine truth. This mission continues today through the Spirit-inspired Scriptures. Scripture as the Spir...
