In previous posts, I talked about moral duty and double effect as it relates to taking the vaccines. In this one, I want to point out the duty Biblical Christians have to obey the governing authority.
Let every person be subject to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God, and those that exist have been instituted by God. Therefore whoever resists the authorities resists what God has appointed, and those who resist will incur judgment.
Now, this is obviously not a universal command to obey each and every action or ordinance a government may levy. Otherwise, it would be a sin to rebel against or resist regimes such as the Communist, Nazis or Fascist governments of the WW2 eras that committed horrific crimes against humanity.
Paul’s logic extends to being a law abiding citizen to the extent it does not hinder your obedience to Christ and the Word of God.
Government sanctioned murder of innocents, perversion of sacred institutions such as marriage, and laws requiring rejection of Biblical morality are all valid reasons to resist governmental authority.
Rejecting vaccine mandates that promote and ensure public welfare is not one of these. Biblical Christians have a moral responsibility to do their part in supporting policies that have no impact to their witness and benefit the public. Adopting a stance of resistance against vaccination is either a misunderstanding of the proven viability and efficacy of it or a misplaced adoption of a politicized position to make a misguided and non-Biblical counter-party/cultural statement.
In an attempt to be charitable, I will give some minor credence to those that object over personal health concerns, but I’d maintain that the risk to public health should override personal safety concerns. I say this as an immuno-compromised person with a wife that is, also. We are both fully vaccinated.
I know this may seem like a harsh message to some, but it is sinful to resist the government in the case of the vaccine mandate.
Obey Scripture and get vaccinated.
